Last Updated: September 30, 2026
HillsNews uses a range of sources when gathering and reporting news.
Primary Sources
Where appropriate, we give preference to primary sources, including:
- Government agencies
- Official government statements
- Court documents
- Companies
- Organizations
- Sports governing bodies
- Public records
- Official announcements
- Direct interviews
Secondary Sources
HillsNews may also consult reputable news organizations, publications, research organizations, experts, and other relevant secondary sources.
When information from another publication contributes materially to a story, appropriate attribution may be provided.
Social Media
Social media may provide useful information during developing events, but information published on social media is not automatically treated as verified.
Where possible, important claims originating from social media should be checked against additional information or authoritative sources before being presented as established fact.
Anonymous Sources
In limited circumstances, information may be obtained from sources who request anonymity.
Anonymous information should be handled carefully and should not be presented as confirmed fact solely because an anonymous individual made a claim.
Press Releases
HillsNews may report information contained in press releases and official statements.
When appropriate, the source of the statement will be identified.
User Tips and Submissions
Readers may submit news tips, information, photographs, videos, or other materials.
Submission does not automatically mean the material will be published. HillsNews may review submitted material before publication.
